Gate 44 was born in September 2016 thanks to the encounter between an artist and a printmaker. Although we have since relocated and reconfigured, the synergy between these two “types” is the defining spirit of our studio. The love of everything that printmaking is - from the odours to the colours to the company all the way to its metaphysical implications of negatives and reflections - is the reason why gate44 came to be. We are a collaborative space revolving around printmaking born from an artist and a printmaker united by the interest in preserving ancient know-hows and to experiment and innovate.

The print studio:

We provide high quality printmaking services to artists, designers, fashion, illustrators and various creative types. We print everything people want strictly by hand from limited edition etchings to zines to books to coasters to posters to scarfs to wallpaper etc. We operate as a traditional print studio and form an international community of alike-people thanks to our creative co-working and our artist in residency program. We organise events, exhibitions, lectures  talks and aperitivi to foster a conversation about printmaking in the contemporary art world. Each year we also issue 3 international open calls with different prizes and awards.

The workshop is equipped with various printmaking presses, exposure units and dark room, wash out booth, etching room, paper cutting, toner copier etc. At gate44 we provide a safe and healthy environment trying to be as green and non-toxic as possible without compromising quality. Because we also like to chill we have a small library and archive room, kitchen area, terrace and outdoor space.
